(refresh) E.C.P.O Close Protection Officer at Advanced level [EN]
Hello, and welcome to our platform.
This training is a refresher course. It is intended only for those who already have their certification or an equivalent (a copy of which must be sent to our administration for your registration for the exam). We will therefore only cover the theoretical part.
"One thing can only ever be identical with itself, never with another. Thus, two things can certainly be equivalent, but never identical."...
The ECPO training you will undertake is at a level comparable to the combination of the BTEC Level III (CPO) + BTEC Level IV (Hostile Environment) from the British SIA (Security Industry Authority), which, following Brexit, has been taken over by Ireland, and is at a European Level 5. This course is designed for high-risk close protection, whether it involves a VIP or a high-threat area, such as a security detail in a hostile environment. It is a very dense compilation of the fundamental aspects of "civilian" close protection, extended to high-risk areas using more military-style protection techniques.
Acronyms to Remember
(There will be many, and in English – international – multilingual teams…):
- CPO: Close Protection Officer (APR: Agent de Protection Rapprochée)
- PPO: Personal Protective Officer (UK) / AIC: Agent In Charge (USA – Secret Service)
- CPD: Close Protection Driver
- TL: Team Leader
The course consists of several topics; some are quite short theoretically, while others are more complex and lengthy but fundamental. The course does not include any unnecessary material.
Some chapters are hard to separate, such as teamwork and operational planning, reconnaissance, or searches, but the course had to be structured theoretically. The practical exercises cover everything comprehensively. Close protection requires in-depth knowledge and method but must never be rigid; it must continually adapt to the context and available skills.
Please also note that we skip first aid, which can be followed in the Medical e-learning section.
Another aspect that will only be addressed theoretically is offensive/defensive and evasive driving, which requires several days and vehicles that you might use in high-risk areas to be effective… Which is impossible!
This training is therefore divided into several modules, with quizzes.
The quizzes allow you to assess yourself, but the assignments or Evidence (Mandatory) significantly impact your training success.
We advise you to complete one module at a time, perhaps dedicating one or more days to it. This ensures you are optimal in the “ASSIGNMENTS or EVIDENCE” sections and follow the order of the modules.
Two units have been added; they are mandatory for requests for French equivalences only but are not part of the ECPO SMAT course and should not be sent to us!
The EXAM will be held at the end of the course. Please contact us to schedule an exam date and time (online).
