Our History
S.M.A.T. represents a professional organisation comprising experts, instructors and practitioners from the medical, security, institutional, operational and civilian sectors.
For several years now, S.M.A.T. has been developing and delivering specialist training courses in the fields of private security, of the close protection, the tactical care, of the CBRN / NRBC response. and preparation for hostile environments.
Our programmes, designed for a professional and international audience, combine theoretical input, role-play scenarios, practical exercises and a hands-on approach. They are aimed in particular at security and medical professionals, as well as institutions, international organisations, companies and teams operating in sensitive or unstable environments.
S.M.A.T. has historically been recognised as a Highfield International centre under reference number 14337, as part of a collaboration that began in 2015 and has continued for nearly ten years.
Since 2019, S.M.A.T. is working with the Security Institute of Ireland (SII) for the development and certification of several specialist programmes. S.M.A.T. holds, in particular, accreditation E.C.P.O.™, leading to the SII Certificate in Close Protection Officer at Advanced Level. as well as the the first European diploma in leadership and management as applied to close protection: SII Diploma in Close Protection Leadership and ManagementThe Security Institute of Ireland also recognises several other programmes developed by S.M.A.T., including:- SII Certificate in HEAT and Operational Safety ;
- SII Certificate in TECR for CBRN Environments ;
- SII Certificate in CBRN Security and Incident Response
Since 2026, S.M.A.T. is also developing an academic partnership with l’ULB HELSci, particularly in relation to specialised programmes such as the operational response TECR for CBRN Environments. Some sessions held on the ULB campus may include a ULB micro-certification, depending on the relevant educational framework and the conditions for award.
In addition to its training courses, S.M.A.T. also offers professional services, particularly in security audit, pre-deployment preparation, operational support, risk analysis and specialist consultancy. This division enables us to provide a tailored response to clients’ varied needs, taking into account the context, the country, the level of risk and the operational objectives.
Our operations span several locations across Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and we are able to adapt to international, institutional, private and operational environments.
Each programme is structured to meet high professional standards, with particular emphasis on safety, the quality of teaching, participants’ progress and the practical application of skills in the workplace.
